Dale McMaster of McMaster Painters has been working at an empty shopin Firebrace Street, which was formerly home to women’s clothing store16 Plus.
Mr McMaster uncovered marine-themed paintings on the upper parts of the building’s walls,and acolouredpressed metal ceiling.
The paintings were covered up about 34 years ago.
Mr McMaster said a few people had come in off street to have a look.
“It’s good to see little bits of history like this surviving somewhere,” he said.
The Mail-Times put a call out for information about the artwork.
Greg McDonald responded and said the shop was formerlyDelcines Coffee Lounge. His mother Val owned the business from about 1968 to 1975.
Mr McDonald believes the mural was probably there before his mother moved in.
