Roar Talent director, Cheryl Wade, said the Championships attracted over 10,000 people, with over 4,000 acts competing from Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada.
The Roar Talent students took-away five titles during the competition — for routines in the lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop and contemporary genres — before going on to win outright in the junior category for a hip hop routine, and the teen category for a jazz routine.
“My performance group has trained a lot of hours to reach this level — more than eight hours per week throughout the year,” Wade told the Gazette.
The crew has scored two trips to Hawaii as prizes — which Wade says will go to the teachers this year — as well as $500 as runners-up in a third category.
“Last year we won a category and the kids got $1,000, but this year they decided to give it to the teachers. We put in a lot of work and donate a lot of our time. The kids got their trophies so they’re happy,” Wade said.
