Five new agricultural counsellors, announced under the AgWhite Paper last year, have been deployed toVietnam, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, China and Thailand.
They are charged with tackling technical barriers to emerging markets and strengthening Australia’s position in existing markets.
The counsellorsworkwith support from other government officials.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce saidgovernment consulted with industry to determining which markets would get the new counsellors.
“These are key markets for Australia, worth about $13.7 billion in agricultural exports in 2014,” he said.
“These new positions will substantially strengthen Australia’s existing overseas agricultural counsellor network in key markets…taking the total number of overseas agricultural counsellors from 12 to 17.”
