THE HeartKids Cup will welcome two new additions to the now annual tournament in 2016, with the NSW under-17 development squad and North Shore United’s under-20 side set to compete alongside the usual suspects this year.

The two sides will join the ever-growing competition – established to raise money for the HeartKids charity – which will be played out at Orange PCYC on Saturday and Sunday, February 13 and 14.

Once again the competition will feature a number of modified rules and event organiser Mardi Aplin said she’s stoked the two sides – a state side, and a Netball NSW Premier League team – have joined the tournament.

“It’s really exciting to have those couple of new teams on board this year,” event organiser Mardi Aplin said.

“We’ll also have all the other usual sides like the ACT’s representative sides, Tuggeranong, Canberra and Baulkham Hills.

“Although, the Baulkham Hills side will be a bit different after the introduction of the [Netball NSW Premier League] in Sydney, so I think a few of the girls have gone different ways.”

Once again Orange will enter two teams in what has fast become a very prestigious tournament, with one Thunder side competing in each division.

However, much like the Baulkham Hills side – although for very different reasons – the Orange sides are set to have a lot of fresh faces.

“We’ll be introducing quite a few younger players this year I think,” Aplin said.

“It’s actually really exciting for them to get the chance. A lot of the older, more experienced players are unavailable.

“For instance, Sheryll (Selwood) and Jacky (Lyden), Erin (Johnstone) and Sinead (Davis) are all unavailable, so we’ll have a few new faces.

“But the Orange sides will still do well.”

Aplin explained there will be once again be a comprehensive coaching clinic on the Saturday, the opening day of the HeartKids Cup, before the games kick off that afternoon and conclude the next day.
