But young talent Jessica Rookeward of Winston Hills can.

Fresh from graduating from Newtown Performing Arts High School, she is now bound for New York.

“The focus on drama and music at Newtown suited me perfectly.”

Jessica received a score of 97/100 in music 1 and all four of her music 1 HSC performances were nominated for Encore — a performance of some of the best pieces from NSW — to be held at the Opera House in February.

She also received a band 6 in drama.

Jessica has taken part in the Schools Spectacular for the past four years and in 2013 she was a featured vocalist.

Jessica’s stage debut was in the Packemin Production Hairspray in July 2013 in which she played the character of Tracy Turnblad alongside Australian entertainment legend Jon English and Helpmann Award nominee Wayne Scott Kermond.

Since then she has played a lead role in three other Packemin shows including Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and Mary Poppins.

In June, Jessica heads to New York to begin a two-year accelerated course in musical theatre.

Excited about her international adventure, she said Australia would still always be home.

“Broadway is where I want to be at this point in my life, but I will definitely come back here and perform.”
