A $2000 purse will be on offer for the first time when the Riverina Tri Series gets underway at Wagga on Sunday.
Wagga Triathlon Club will kick off the season with their‘Come and Try Triathlon’ at Charles Sturt University.
The Wagga event will be the first of six races in the Riverina Tri Series, that also features triathlons at Ganmain, Temora, Cootamundra, The Rock and Narrandera.
For the first time the male and female series winner will both pocket $1000, courtesy of sponsor Leisure and Recreation Group.
“This is the first year and we hope it might make it that little bit more interesting for the serious competitors,” Wagga Triathlon Club president Chris Waring said.
“We’ve had enquires from as far as Albury so I think it has been a drawcard.”
The Wagga triathlon is more about beginners and Waring hopes to attract plenty of newcomers.
“What is most important to us is the participation factor,” he said.
