THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severethunderstorm warning for heavy rain.
The warning is for parts of the Wimmera and Mallee, along with central and south-west forecast districts.
The bureau warns severe thunderstorms are likely to produceheavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.
It lists Stawell, Warracknabeal andArarat as places that could be affected.
The State Emergency Service advisedthat rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas could contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks.
People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
The State Emergency Service advises people should:
keep away from creeks and drainsdo not drive vehicles through flooded areasstay indoors if possibleavoid using the phone during the stormIf you are outside,
avoid sheltering under treeslisten to the radio for storm updatesswitch off your computer and electrical appliancesThe next warning is due to be issued by 4.35pm.
