More than 36 years after his death and after sold-out shows in New York City, Lennon: Through a Glass Onion is back in Australia.
The Lennon-inspired theatrical event is on Saturday, February 6, at the Wentworthville venue.
The show, part concert and part biography, is created and performed by renowned Australian actor and musician John Waters and esteemed singer and pianist Stewart D’Arrietta.
It showcases the talent of one of the most admired stars of the past century, with a story and 31 songs including Strawberry Fields Forever, Imagine and Working Class Hero.
This internationally acclaimed theatrical event celebrates the music and phenomenon of Lennon.
Producer Harley Medcalf said seeing the production at its American premiere was a truly emotional experience.
“We were overwhelmed, blessed really, to have the support of Yoko Ono [Lennon’s wife] and the Lennon Estate,” she said.
Waters said he was very excited to perform in New York.
“To be embraced by New Yorkers as we were from October to January, this was a great reward for all of us who worked so hard to get our show there.
“Night after night, our audiences stood to acknowledge us, and it doesn’t get much better than that.”
The show will head down under in February and play across Sydney, including at the Sydney Opera House.
“It’s been fantastic the response the show is receiving, especially from the younger audience that are coming along,” he said.
“Some of them weren’t even born then — It’s a testament to the legacy of the man and his music that still excites and intrigues people to this day.”
